Inkfish Privacy
Last updated: 2026-10-11
Summary
Inkfish finds and removes private information in PDF files, and all of that work happens on your Mac. The app is built without network access, contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK, and asugar.app never receives your files or any data about how you use the app.
Data stored on your Mac
- PDF files. Inkfish opens only the files you choose by drag and drop, Choose PDF…, or Open With. It never modifies the original. The safe copy is saved where you choose; by default it goes to your Desktop with “-redacted” added to the name.
- Settings and your own rules. Preferences and custom detection rules are stored in the app’s local preferences on this Mac. Rules leave the app only when you export them as a
.inkfish-rules.jsonfile. - Folder access. When you let Inkfish save into a folder, macOS stores a security-scoped bookmark so the app can save there again without asking.
- Optional CSV report. If you turn it on, Inkfish writes a CSV file next to the safe copy listing the kind of information removed, the page and the count. The report never contains the removed text.
Data we never collect
- No account, sign-up or email address is needed.
- No analytics, telemetry or usage statistics.
- No advertising identifiers and no cross-app tracking.
- No crash reports sent by the app.
- No copy of your PDFs, findings or redacted files ever leaves your Mac.
- The app’s own diagnostic log never records detected text or file paths.
Apple’s data collection
Apple handles App Store downloads and updates and may collect information under its own policy. See the Apple Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
None. Inkfish uses only Apple frameworks that run on your Mac: PDFKit for reading and writing PDFs, Vision for text recognition on scanned pages, and Natural Language for recognizing names.
